Berwin Leighton Paisner
An nQueue Case Study
The Firm
Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is a premier, full-service law firm headquartered in the City of London. The organisation advises major public and private companies, financial institutions, public sector bodies and private clients in over 65 jurisdictions. BLP has more than 200 partners and 1300 staff across offices in London, Abu Dhabi, Brussels, Moscow (Goltsblat BLP), Paris and Singapore. In 2010, BLP became the only firm to have ever been named Law Firm of the Year in the same year by both The Lawyer and at Legalweek’s British Legal Awards.
The Objective
Provide the 24-hour print room with more transparency to enable improved workflows, better allocation of resources and greater efficiency.
The Challenge
BLP’s print room was not receiving efficient information about print and copy requests. Job tickets were created manually and there was no advance warning about large copy jobs until the boxes of originals arrived. There were further opportunities to improve processes around the delivery of electronic files and status updates. These were previously done by telephone, and had the potential to be time consuming for all concerned.
The Challenge
BLP implemented a new production workflow system from nQueue, which automated job-ticket creation for the users and provided workflow support for the print room. As a result, the reprographics team now knows the key information about a project – client and matter codes, job size and timeline and deadlines – beforehand. This allows the team to follow a workflow that allows all deadlines to be met efficiently. The information allows managers to allocate resources properly, for example by not starting a big job on a machine that will be needed shortly for a priority order or by keeping staff on after their shift ends if a big project is on the way.
nQueue technology also provides a mechanism for the delivery of electronic originals and the opportunity for users to log in and immediately check job status, keeping interruptions to a minimum.
The new Printroom Module has enabled us to be more systematic about how we plan our resources and has enabled us to better manage the expectations of our internal clients. Ultimately, it has freed up precious time, so that we can look at other ways to add more value and deliver an excellent end product.
